Air — Page 241

An A-10 patrol, ready for action

I was flying as a photojournalist with Charlie Alfrod's group of B-17's, coming back from a costly raid on Schweinfurt . Just as we got over the English Channel, the thickest fog I had ever seen instantly greeted us. It occurred to me that how ironic it would be to survive Schweinfurt
and then have a mid-air in that fog.

Pete Martin's B-29 #28242 - best wingman you could ever wish for.

Ladies and gentlemen - this is your captain.
We will be in Paris in 30 minutes.....

Keepin' a close eye on his T-33 student.....
