Recollections of an RB-29 crew in Japan

Mission Process

Since the birth of the first flying machine, it has been true that attention to planning, procedures and discipline contribute to the longevity of both the aircraft and flight personnel. This was certainly true of the B and RB 29s and their crews that, during the life of this aircraft, served our nation so well. Flying classified reconnaissance missions in these weary machines demanded constant close attention, at every step, by all involved.

While our crew was disciplined, there was also a sense of family woven through our evolving relationships. Each crewmember brought special gifts and interests to the group. This section, describing the Mission Process, is designed to help weave together the story of what life was like, for our crew, at this time and place in the history of the evolving Cold War atmosphere.
