Since his return to civilian life, Speed Homan has remained active in local, state and national veterans organizations and activities. His organizational involvements include these organizations:
He is active in the top 4 and attends functions of the bottom 2 |

In Chapter 7, Sharing Life's Experiences, Speed talks about his sense of obligation to share his experiences to make following generations more aware of the history and sacrifices of those who came before them.
As the occasions demand, he travels locally, around the state of Minnesota and, sometimes, across the Nation to meet his obligations. The two photos at the right are just minor examples of his interests and efforts. His records indicate extensive, ongoing, contacts with the families he encountered in his Market Garden wartime experience. Reviewing these communications, it is obvious that a lifelong bond has formed through their common experiences in some of the most traumatic events of the 20th Century. The picture at right illustrates his participation in a POW/MIA Recognition Ceremony held at the St. Cloud, MN, VA Medical Center on April 7, 1995. As I compose this page, I know that Speed has just returned from a cross-country trip to attend a gathering of his WW II POW Organization gang of friends. |

As I have worked with Speed in these recent months, gathering the data for this collection of related stories, I am impressed with his remarkable sense of humor, vigor, positive attitude and sense of duty and patriotism. It is no wonder he has fathered a family who have all, in their turn, served their country through service.
While this ends the story of Elvin Speed Homan I encourage you to take time to review the two stories listed below as Attachments # 1 and #2. They are remarkable companion stories that fit into Speed's story like a glove. |
