“Far East Mosaic” It is during the first half of the 1950’s, two wars are being fought simultaneously The Korean War and a “Cold War” between the United States and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. The latter is a “dark” war, the aerial aspect of which is conducted along national boundary lines and along lines of claimed territorial waters lines which become somewhat elastic as a result of activities by both nations. The 331st Strategic Reconnaissance Squadron is involved in both conflicts. Sam Slater is an Aircraft Commander of a 331st RB-29 crew. Because of the ease with which the Soviets can obtain information about the free society of the United States, Sam, his crew and others like them fly missions not only in Korea but also missions designed to keep a watchful eye on the USSR, gathering as much information, photographic and electronic, as they can from the air. In War, casualties occur on both sides, and this conflict is no exception. Naturally, other individuals are involved in forming this mosaic of incidents of the period.
