The Abbreviated Life of the Ill-fated
RB-29 #44-61727
“So Tired”

Editor’s Introduction

This is the story of an especially configured RB-29 classified reconnaissance aircraft, framed within the early history of the Korean War. Her operating base was out of Yokota Air Base, Japan, home of the 91st Strategic Reconnaissance Squadron. She was a key player in the USAF effort to help our nation and the United Nations stem the tide of invading Communist forces moving through both North and South Korea.

The performance and subsequent story of a flying machine, such as this, is brought to life through the dedicated efforts of the various ground and air crew team members, along with the operational planning and leadership staff, who breathe life and purpose into the machine. At the same time, it must be remembered that there is the competing force of the enemy who seeks to diminish or eliminate this combination of human and mechanical forces that pursue them. Another important element are the families of each one of the individuals who represent their particular form of service and expertise. The reader should be sensitive to each of these elements as we make some interconnections with RB-29 #1727 and encounter some of the humans on which she left her mark.
