B-24

Engine Change Crew takes a break.

Officers Club at
Gushkara, India.

The booze consumed in this club wass brought in by the F-9 (B-17) that brought spare engine and lab parts via a shuttle from MacDill to Gushkara by way of Natal and Africa. The booze was purchased in one of the British Colonies in Africa at very reasonable prices. Capt. Art Humby piloted the shuttle.

Humby was a flying school classmate of Clarence Becker and later was A/C of one of the F-13s that trained with us at Smoky Hill and then went to India with that flight. He had to bail out his entire crew in China after a mission. He got his entire crew of 11 back safely. That is another
story in itself.

Master Sgt. Cassada,
Capt. Becker’s photographer, displays the back of a flight jacket typical of the one worn by all crewmembers flying the Hump in the event they went down in China or Burma.

Transferring
booze from B-24 to hospital ambulance for further disposition upon return to MacDill from India.
