Just prior to his return from the Pacific, General Johnson was decorated by the Republic of Vietnam Prime Minister Nguyen Cao Ky. He received the Republic of Vietnam Air Force Distinguished Service Order, First Class, which is the equivalent to the U.S. Air Force Legion of Merit. The presentation was made on Guam during the conference between President Lyndon B. Johnson and Prime Minister Ky.
Also, during March 1967, his promotion to Brigadier General was announced with an effective date of November 1 of that year. Upon completion of his TDY tour at Andersen, general Johnson returned to McCoy until his reassignment to the 823rd Air Division at Homestead AFB, Florida, on July 1, 1967. He remained Commander of that unit until his assignment as Vice Commander, Third Air Division, July 1, 1968. |

Effective April 1, 1970, he was assigned as the Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff, Operations, Headquarters SAC. General Johnson was married to the former Peggy Ruth Hearn (recently deceased) and they have one daughter, Donna Sno, born in 1951.
Some of the decorations and awards earned by the General, a command pilot, include the Legion of Merit with one oak leaf cluster, Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star, Air Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal, Commendation Ribbon with one oak leaf cluster and the Distinguished Unit Citation. General Johnson is an active participant in several sports and is a member of the Phi Delta Theta College fraternity. General Johnson currently resides in Orlando, Florida |
