This bronze pillar with many bells on its top is standing at the backside of the three Buddhas Temple, which is called “Sorinto”. This pillar was built by a high priest Tenkai Sojo, political advisor of Iyeyasu Tokugawa, the first Shogun of Tokugawa Shogunate, in 1643. Its purpose was that of keeping the evil spirits out of these sacred precincts and the nation in a peaceful condition and, moreover, protecting the Tokugawa Shogunate.
