Barbara Rosebrock speaks of the impact her Father's life experiences has had on their family.

“My father's military background has effected my life in many ways. One that comes to mind was the night before my only son left for basic training in San Antonio, Texas for the United States Air Force. Dad and Mom came over and gave him (James) a gift and card. When he opened the gift I was truly shocked. Dad told him it was the Saint Christopher Medal that my Mom had given him before he left for WW II and it had kept him safe throughout the war, including prison camp. James felt it was an honor that Grandpa had given him the medal, and he wore it throughout basic training and now has it in a special box for safe keeping. Dad and James have always had a very special bond, and it continues to this day.

Also, in 2002, my parents bought each of my 4 brothers a paver in the McLeod Veterans Memorial park. I had already bought a paver for my husband and Dad had purchased his right away. My Mom passed away in August and my 4 brothers purchased a paver for my son, which was placed along side of my Dad and 4 brothers. We walk down to the park quite often and it is a constant reminder to me on how strong our family and
military background really is.

I have attended numerous speeches that Dad has given at schools on Veterans Day or at different clubs and each time I learn something new about him. He has a very outgoing personality and can visit with people of all ages and feel very comfortable. This year my husband and I had the pleasure of attending his annual army unit reunion. I found all the people there to be so full of life and love of life. I only wish I could have gone earlier, so many of the veterans have passed away, considering that WWII was about 60 years ago; but each and every one of them remember it like it was yesterday. Now the vets, their spouses, children and grandchildren attend. It is very heart warming. So I would say my Dad has effected my life in so many special ways.

My nephew, Kris Homan
(Michael's son and Elvin's
grandson) designed this
Homan Crest for our family:

The HOMAN at the top represents our family.

• The Camouflage Green Eagle represents my Dad, Elvin the protector of the family and is the symbol for the military that we serve.

• The single yellow rose in the center of the crest, represents my Mom, Rosa the heart of the family.

•The 5 stars above the rose, represents their 5 children.

• The wings on the Eagle represents the expanding growth of the family.

• The claws of the Eagle represents the 4 wars the in which the family served: WW11, Korea, VietNam and Persian Gulf.
